Black Lion Cafe is a Rockville coffee house that’s very much in touch with coffee’s Ethiopian roots. You see, the owners come from five generations of Ethiopian coffee farmers, and have spent plenty of time on the family’s Harar coffee plantation. This means that customers at Black Lion Cafe reap the benefit of that experience, thanks to single-farm sourcing, on-site, small-batch roasting, and freshly brewed coffee all day long.
The shop itself is clean and modern, with plenty of coffee-themed artwork hanging on the walls, and a rustic-industrial decor that is simultaneously cozy and modern. If you’re in a hurry, order yourself a regular cup of joe to-go, but regulars recommend that if possible you take the time to sit down and really enjoy your brew. Yelpers say that a single shot of espresso pairs well with a couple of buttery sweet madeleine cookies, while a foamy cappuccino goes well with a hazelnut macaron.
