Growing up in Peru, the owner of La Canela learned the art of crafting authentic Peruvian cuisine alongside her mother. As an adult, she quickly went into the business of preparing the same family recipes for the people of Rockville. La Canela debuted a little more than a decade ago with this goal in mind.
Grab a table at La Canela for dinner to experience the Peruvian cuisine firsthand. Start with the palta rellena, half an avocado stuffed with jumbo lump crabmeat and drizzled with a rocoto tomato emulsion, or the traditional seafood ceviche mixto. Then devour a main dish such as the canilla de cordero. The chef slowly braises the grass-fed Superior Farms lamb shank for 10 hours in a special aji panca-cabernet sauce, then serves it with caramelized onions, butter bean puree, and jasmine rice.
